WJFW TV reports Forest County District Attorney Charles Simino reported to the Crandon School Board Tuesday that while an investigation found ethical problems with Superintendent Dr. Doug Kryder's action, he found insufficient basis for criminal charges.
Kryder has been on paid administrative leave since the investigation began in March.
Kryder was allegedly offered trips, meals, and free drinks at conferences, according to emails found in the investigation. Those offers came from an executive at McKinstry, a company competing for business from the Crandon School District.
Simino reported Kryder accepted some offers, but found no direct link between the gifts and Kryder's support of the the McKinstry contract with the School District of Crandon.
The superintendent later advised the Crandon School Board to sign a contract with McKinstry to make energy efficiency improvements at the school.
The 900,000 contract was approved by the school board in 2017. Simono reported if that link could have been established, it could have resulted in misconduct in office charges.
Kryder would not comment on the record for WJFW.
