Rhinelander Moving To Annex Heal Creek To Make New Park

The City of Rhinelander and other interested parties purchased a property known as Heal Creek next to the Northwood Golf Club on the city's far west side.

But officials discovered the 62 acres bought by the city at part of a 270 acre site was never annexed to the city.
The city formally requested that according to council member and Parks committee chair Sherri Belliveau..

"....We transferred the Heal Creek property to the planning commission because we discovered it had never been annexed into the City of Rhinelander from the Town of Crescent where we believe it is sitting right now. So we're going through the process of annexation and then declare it a city park..."

Belliveau says because the property is next door to the city-owned Northwood Golf Club, they also sent the annexation to the city's Golf Course Committee. Bellivieu says if all goes as planned, the city will have a different kind of park...

"....We have some adjacent property owners who have allowed access to their property for recreational use. The idea of this park is not to build  playgrounds, not like how a city park is structured, it would be silent-sports recreation only...."

Belliveau says once the annexation is complete, it will come back to the Parks department and it will be named an official park. At that point, the city can apply for grants to develop the recreation. She says they're considering a public naming of the park, similar to how the new boat landing on the Pelican River was named.
