A five- day jury trial in the shooting death of Connor Stevens of Three Lakes is still on the Vilas County court calendar.
The trial is scheduled to start February 4.
Court motions were filed last week to compel the presentation of evidence and possibly change the trial date. Jeremiah Solis, now of Hancock, is alleged to have killed Stevens in an apartment at 431 East Wall Street in Eagle River September 3, 2017.
He faces homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, in this case a .40 caliber pistol purchased two days earlier at the Eagle River gun show. He also has a second charge of having a controlled subtance in his system when the pistol discharged hitting Stevens in the chest.
Defense Attorney Al Moustakis indicated he has an expert and wants to examine the firing pin of the pistol which would require it be taken apart, which could delay the trial. Moustakis said. they could do this at the state crime lab and after they receive his opinion the will share it with the Disrict Attorney Martha Milanowski's office.
Vilas County Judge Neal Nielsen took his motion to delay under advisement but directed both sides to work cooperatively. He kept the trial date and set January 23 to review the case status.
