Golf courses may open April 24 with restrictions under the Safer at Home extension announced last Thursday by Governor Tony Evers.

Golf course restrictions will include scheduling and paying for tee times online or by phone only. Clubhouses and pro shops must remain closed.

Recently, the Eagle River city counci adopted a resolution urging the governor and legislature to allow golf courses to operate under professional golf association (PGA) guidelines.

City Administrator Joe Laux pointed out the PGA guidelines follow the “Safer at Home” program to ensure seperation and control of COVIS-19 spread and are no different than allowing restaurants to open and operate via curbside service PGA guidelines encourage walking but golf carts may be utilized limited to one rider each with exceptions for family members who share a residence. Tee times should be no less than 12 minutes between groups, on-line payment only, and when rounds are completed, customers go directly to their vehices.

Laux says this allows people to get some physical exercise and provide some mental relief without risking the spread of COVI-19. The golf course maintenance must continue even if closed to the public otherwise the city could lose the course to the elements.
