The U.S. Department of Agriculture last week reported emergency benefit increases have reached $2 billion per month for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance during the coronavirus national emergency. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said the emergency benefits represent a 40 percent increase in overall SNAP benefits.
Locally, Oneida County Social Services Supervisor Lily Mueller says funding has increased for the program commonly known as FoodShare. She says the additional benefits have been made available to eligible recipients...
"These additional funds bring all eligible up to the maximum monthly benefit allowed for their their households, though not all households will get the additional funds..."
Mueller says people who already are getting maximum benefits will not get an increase. Mueller says FoodShare Wisconsin was created to help people with limited income get nutritious food which they otherwise might not be able to buy.
Mueller says if people would like to apply they can go to access dot Wisconsin. gov or they can contact the Social Services department, though there is limited access now at the courthouse because of the COVID outbreak. The Oneida county phone number is 715-362-5695.
