As part of an $866,000 USDA Rural Business Development Grant, the federal government is funding two projects in the Northwoods geared toward job creation.
Wisconsin Director Frank Frassetto announced a grant of $89,000 to five Native American business owners in the Lac du Flambeau, Mole Lake and Menominee tribes. That grant was to NiiJii Capital Partners. Another grant of $35,000 was awarded to Nicolet College. Frassetto says the money is for technical assistance.
He outlined the Nicolet College grant...
"They're looking to provide technical assistance and develop a virtual information ecosystem(database) for entrepreneurs, mentors and service providers. That's their goal and we're looking to partner with them and provide whatever financial assistance we can to help them reach that goal..."
Frassetto details the NiiJii Capital Partners grants to the three tribes...
"This is the 12th year has been participating in Rural Development business programs. We've been a strong partner over the last decade..."
Frassetto says the NiiJii grant will help save or create 53 jobs. Frassetto says the assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
