DNR, Rhinelander Agree On Former Ranger Station

WXPR Ken Krall

The city of Rhinelander and the DNR have reached an agreement concerning the former ranger station on Boyce Drive.

The city has plans to build a boat launch on the site. The state had proposed demolishing the building at a cost of just over $13,000 but as City Administrator Blaine Oborn told the city council Monday, it looks like the city will get a check from the state. The city then will take care of the demo. He says the city would like to use the building as a training site first for the police department, then let the firefighters at it to train...

".....but since we're going to do the boat launch in that area....in lieu of them demolishing the building that is there...we negotiated(the amount)...so they're giving us a lump sum..."

Fire Chief Terry Williams indicated there wouldn't be much left to demolish after the fire department finished training.

The city is working toward building a boat launch site at the junction of the Pelican and Wisconsin Rivers. Oborn says they have gathered federal dollars for the project, and are still waiting on state funding. They would like to have the launch open next year.
