Oneida County Health Department Seeks Public Perception of Substance Use

Oneida County Health Department

The Oneida County Health Department is working with two local coalitions – the Community Outreach, Prevention, and Education Coalition and the Northwoods Tobacco Free Coalition – to complete a county-wide assessment on substance use.

Jenny Chiamulera, a community health specialist with the health department, said the goal of the assessment is to collect data, and then translate that data into action.

“Collecting data can help influence how we can increase our understanding of local contacts, what kind of resources we have, potential gaps and needs in the community and help identify high risk populations,” she said.

The first step in this year-long assessment is a survey to help understand locals’ views on substance use.

“Once we have this information the goal is to do some strategic planning,” she said. “So once we know what the gaps are, what the problems are, we can implement some strategies within the community that can make a real impact.”

Chiamulera said the survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

It’s a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions.

It’s open to anyone 18 years and older to complete until June 26.
