CNNF Needs Volunteers This Summer

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles this summer to support the Forest's recreational program.

Lakewood-Laona Assistant Recreational Ranger Greyling Brandt says volunteer campground hosts are especially needed. He says having a person hosting the campsite is invaluable...

".....the presence of somebody being there, it affects the campground. People feel more secure. Facilities have a cleaner appearance because they can do the more detailed stuff that normally we wouldn't have. We make sure everything is clean and go to the next site. When you have a volunteer camp ground host, they live right there and they have pride in the little things..."

Brandt says they are looking for students, retirees, veterans, service organzations, community groups and others to volunteer their time....

".....we look to have (volunteers) do trail stuff, or just about anything. We had a good volunteer project with Mountain Fire Tower, folks cleaning the site, maintaining the site. If your interested in a specific site, come in and talk to us,we'll work out a volunteer agreement with you...."

More information is available on the Volunteer Information Page on the National Forestwebsite, or contact the Ranger District office near where you want to volunteer.
