Wisconsin Lottery Official Says Don't Buy Holiday Tickets For Kids

Wisconsin's state lottery is joining other U.S. and Candadian gaming organizations to ask players to not purchase tickets as gifts for children or adolescents.

State Lottery Director Cindy Polzin says tickets are intended for legal age adults...

"...We're very concerned about children getting involved in gambling, so we ask players to gift responsibly during this holiday season and to keep in mind who you are gifting for. In Wisconsin you have to be 18 years old to play or even redeem those lottery tickets. The tickets are fun to give to friends and co-workers, but their not intended to give to kids...."

Polzin says December's Wisconsin Lottery retailer newsletter and Wisconsin Lottery social media platforms feature the holiday gift responsibly message throughout the month.

The Wisconsin Lottery is In partnership with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and McGill University's International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors...

"..Not only do we give money to the Department of Health Services to give to the Council On Problem Gambling but we also through our own means push social media for responsible gaming, a print ad, a radio ad. We work closely with reponsible gaming groups here in Wisconsin..."

Officials say while most efforts target adult pathological gamblers, there is growing concern that adolescents and young adults represent the highest risk group for gambling problems.
