Eagle River Ice Castle is a go for 2022

There will be an ice castle in Eagle River this winter.

Earlier this week, the Eagle River Fire Department cleared snow off a portion of Silver Lake to help build up more ice.

The department needs it to be at least 12 inches thick to cut the blocks needed for the castle.

The last time conditions allowed for the creation of the Ice Castle was in 2018. That's the photos you're seeing. Due to uncooperative weather, the castle has been built just twice since 2014.

Thursday, the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce announced on Facebook there will be a castle.

It’s asking for volunteers to help make it.

This was the message from the chamber:

All Volunteers need to stop by the Railroad Depot and check-in with Danny Jo and then they will get started with their volunteer opportunity. We ask volunteers to just come to the Railroad Depot and check in.

This is a great community project enjoyed by all and everyone’s help is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers Needed:

Saturday (Jan. 8): 9:30am – Assist with loading ice blocks into trucks at Silver Lake

9:30am – Need ½ ton pick up trucks to haul ice from Silver Lake to the Railroad Depot (note: only 1 truck at a time will be in loading area)

10:00am – Assist with unloading ice blocks from trucks at Railroad Depot

Sunday (Jan. 9): 9:00am – Assist with the building of the ice castle at Railroad Depot

Monday (Jan. 10) and Tuesday (Jan. 11) :

10:00am – Noon - Assist with the building of the ice castle at Railroad Depot

2:00pm - 4:00pm - Assist with the building of the ice castle at Railroad Depot
