While much of this week is dedicated to the Hodag Country Festival, in less than two weeks, another multi-day event begins in Rhinelander.
The 51st School of the Arts at Rhinelander begins July 19 through the 23rd at James Williams Middle School. It's sponsored by the UW-Madison Continuing Studies Department.
The school is open to anyone with an interest in writing, music, performing, cooking, spiritual enhancement, painting, and other arts.
Director Lynn Tarnoff says they too have some headliners...
".....Wade Fernandez is just coming off an international tour will be teaching his flute courses and this is called, 'Finding Your Voice In Native Flute'. What's interesting for us this year is instead of just having one course of introductory native flute, Wade is doing a second class with some experience...."
Elizabeth Lewis returns with her "Body, Mind, Spirit" course, which helps people focus and find stress reduction. New instructor Nancy Akerly will teach working with marbeling paper and making paper into books. There are dozens of other courses.
Several public sessions for those not enrolled for the full week are also planned.
Tarnoff says openings still exist in several classes, but they often fill up....

The school was founded by UW professor Robert Gard as a way to bring the arts to rural Wisconsin.
