A north central Wisconsin Boy Scout council has received one of the top honors in the nation.
The Boys Scouts of America has honored the Samoset Council with the distinction of being in the gold standard ranking among the 273 council in the country. The gold standard puts the organization within the top ten percent of councils in the nation, based on scouting criteria. Samoset Council Scout Executive Jeff Ottosen says they recognize achievement in eighteen different areas ..
"....one is, 'what is the quality of the program you're providing?...what kinds of activities and support are you providing to the volunteers that run the program?...but also it gets into the financial aspect. Is it a financially healthy Boy Scout council?..."
Samoset Council has ranked among the top five councils in the country four times in the past five years, including number one in 2012. The Samoset Council recorded a 2.6 percent growth in membership in 2015 with 4,463 youth members.
The Samoset Council serves 13 counties in central and northern Wisconsin including Camp Tesomas. Camp Tesomas outside Rhinelander is considered to be one of the finest Boy Scouts of America facilities in the nation.
