Nicolet College Class Works To Help Homeless Shelter

NATH

A Nicolet College class has partnered with the Rhinelander-based Frederick Place Homeless Shelter in an effort to collect donations needed on a daily basis at the shelter.

Tarah Rappley is a Business student and to complete her degree needs to take on a project for the Service Learning Class. The students decided helping out Frederick Place was their project...

"....what we decided to do was set up donation bins at Trig's here in Rhinelander and also the Dollar Tree in Rhinelander to collect donations, even monetary donations...."

She describes the donation bins...

"....we bought a toy house that you would use outside and we assembled it inside Trig's by the service desk. All the goods..it will be filled...and the house will be donated to NATH when it is all done..."

NATH is the Northwoods Alliance For Temporary Housing and is the parent organization for Frederick Place.

Rappley says they need laundry detergent dryer sheets, disinfectant wipes, garbage bags, bathroom cleaner, deodorant and day-to-day items, including coffee. Donations will be accepted until the end of April.

Frederick Place serves Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties and is located at 204 Frederick Place next to the Rhinelander Fire Department. To date, they've served 542 homeless individuals including 86 children and 37 veterans since the shelter opened in January, 2011.
