Lakeland Union High School senior Kiona Poupart has received a 2019 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Student Initiative Scholarship. She and her family were honored at an awards luncheon in Chippewa Falls on Sunday.

The scholarship carries with it a $6,000 award. “We are extremely proud of Kiona’s accomplishments and wish her all the best for her future,” said Principal Justin Szews. According to the foundation’s website, “Student Initiative Scholarship recipients, chosen by their schools, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.”

The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, philanthropist and businessman, in 1990. To date, the foundation has awarded $17.8 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students and schools “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future,” Kohl said in a released statement.
