Nicolet College in Rhinelander offers adventure classes for folks who want to get outdoors this winter. One even includes your dog.
Outdoor Adventure coordinator Terry Rutlin says the offerings are intended to get you off the couch...
"We offer a wide variety of outdoor activities for people to get outside, learn new skills, meet new friends..."
Outdoor offerings include Old-Growth Pines Snowshoe Exploration and Lunch with John Bates and Mary Burns, along with Winter Ecology with Bates and Burns in the Germain Hemlocks near McNaughton. Also offered is classic cross-country skiing and other techniques using your cross-country skis. Training in downhill and alpine skiing is offered, along with fat tire bicycling instruction.
A growing winter sport also gets attention....
"...New this year, which is really exciting, is we're offering a Skijor With Your Dog Class out at Minocqua Winter Park. It's a demonstration class where the instructor, Niina Baum, teaches the basics of skijoring. That's when you're out on a cross-country ski trail and your dog assists you down the trail..."
