More Money For Youth, Adult Apprenticeships

EEOC

Wisconsin's Youth Apprenticeship program is a part of a statewide School-to-Work initiative. It's designed for high school students who want hands on learning in an occupational area at a worksite along with classroom instruction.

This one or two year elective program combines academic and technical instruction with mentored on-the-job learning.

During a visit last week to Rhinelander, Department of Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Jonathan Barry reported the recently-signed state budget funds apprenticeships...

"...(Governor Walker) made a commitment to youth apprenticeship, replacing federal money that was , I think, unwisely being applied and the Governor put $1.8 million into youth apprenticeship, as well as fully funded adult apprenticeship...."

The Department of Workforce Development is accepting applications for Youth Apprenticeship Local Grants for the 2013-14 school year. More information is available through the state government web portal at wisconsin.gov
