AUDIO: WXPR Program Focuses On Alzheimer's Disease

Peg Arnold-WXPR

November is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month. WXPR gathered a panel of experts to talk about the disease.

Hear the full one-hour broadcast below:

One of the panelists is Dr. Chris Koeppl, Director of the Northern Wisconsin Memory Diagnostic Center at Ministry Medical Group in Rhinelander.

He says people should prepare for the possibility of getting Alzheimer's as they would other issues...

?

"....I want to prepare now for it. I want to have the dialog with the family that if this occurs, help me get help. Help me understand the things that I should do. If I shouldn't be driving, then lets have a plan in place now for how we're going to deal with that as we go forward...."

Jim Brust provided care for his mother....

?

".....the caregivers are often in a more difficult position, because they're trying to go through all the things that Dr. Koeppl just described. What does the progression look like. What do I have to do to create a safe environment, things of that sort..."

Julie St. Pierre is the Outreach Specialist for the Alzheimer's Association in Rhinelander. She says families should seek help when a diagnosis is made...

?

"....nobody should have to go through the journey of Alzheimer's Disease all by themselves. There are far too many supports and services out there for anyone having to go through it alone...."

The program will be broadcast Friday, November 22 at 3:00 p.m. with a repeat Sunday, November 24 at noon.
