Eagle River Closer To ATV's In City

Eagle River officials are moving closer to allowing all-terrain vehicles…ATV’s…to operate in the city.

The common council Tuesday night appointed Alder Kim Schaefer to work with Town of Lincoln officials on developing routes for ATV’s.

Mark Kirby of Three Lakes, president of the Nicolet ATV Club, presented a plan that would route ATV’s between Dyer road and downtown Eagle River on the Three Eagle Trail.  The ATV’s would cross highway 70 at Sundstein road and follow city streets to Riverview park, where they would cross the bridge on the snowmobile trail.

Vilas county recently opened up the possibility of operating ATV’s on county roads and provided ATV clubs the same opportunities as snowmobile clubs to develop trails.

Tom Rulseh, president of the Three Eagle Trail Foundation, was pleased with the outcome of the meeting:

"WELL, I SAW AND HEARD A WILLINGNESS AND ALSO AN OPENNESS TO DISCUSS VARIOUS ASPECTS OF ATV ROUTE DEVELOPMENT AS WELL AS CONCERN FOR SAFETY IN THE CITY AND COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER RECREATIONAL FACILITIES."

In other action , the Eagle River city council scheduled a public hearing on the Olson Memorial Library renovation and expansion project for the October 8th meeting of the city plan commission.  The council also ratified an earlier decision to transfer the library land and building to the town of Lincoln.
