Lincoln Co. Board To Consider New Redistricting Map Resolution

Dean S. Acheson photo

The Lincoln county board Tuesday is considering a resolution to change how Wisconsin establishes its legislative districts and the person leading to change the process is likely to be in attendance.

The board resolution insists upon the creattion of a nonpartisan procedure in redistricting, with an eye toward more accountability and transparency.

A panel of federal district court judges has ruled that that Wisconsin's 2011 redistricting was unconstitutional, but that ruling is being challenged by Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimmel, asking the U.S. Supreme Court to have the previous maps restored. Majority Republicans drew the boundaries in 2011.

Bill Whitford is the lead plaintiff in the case. Whitford is scheduled to speak to the Lincoln county board prior to the vote Tuesday evening. Whitford spoke recently in Woodruff, as WXPR reported on March 6 and on our website. The meeting is a the William Buedingen Training Center in Tomahawk at 6:00 p.m.
