Northwoods students attended Career Day Tuesday at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.
Career Coach Joe Haferman says this is the fifth Career Day at Nicolet for area 7th graders.
He says the day is designed to give youth a chance to see some potential careers....
"....expose kids to things they haven't thought about, haven't known about, so we have everything from emergency medical services here today, to Ponssee, to cosmetolgy. I think they get a lot out of it. They talk to people they necessarily wouldn't talk to and learn about some careers they don't necessarily know about....."
Several area employers were on hand, including local fire departments, Wisconsin Public Service and WXPR. Haferman says this type of event has long range potential for the college and students...
"....it's good for us, we get our name out there, people know about what we do and programs that we have. While they're only 7th graders it doesn't hurt to get them exposed to the college environment earlier. Whether they go(to Nicolet) or elsewhere, get them thinking about the future and that is what our main goal is....."
About 600 7th graders from 14 Northwoods schools were in attendance.
