Minocqua Man Dies When Machine Goes Through Ice

Watersmeet--A Wisconsin man died Wednesday morning when his skid steer broke through the ice on a  lake near Watersmeet, Michigan.

Lac Vieux Desert Tribal Police report the accident happened on Thousand Island Lake. The 55-year-old man was driving the skid steer when it broke through the ice.

He was taken by helicopter to Eagle River Memorial Hospital where he died. Six agencies assisted tribal police at the scene.

The name of the man has not been released by officials, but on the Lakeland Times Facebook page, they identified the man as Tom Handrick of Minocqua. An obituary has been posted on the Nimsgern Funeral Home website.
