Frederickson Says He's Getting Ready To Be Mayor

Jessie Dick WXPR

The write-in candidate who won Rhinelander's mayor's job says he's ready to hit the ground running.

Chris Frederickson out-polled city council member Alex Young 781-526 to succeed Dick Johns as mayor.

Frederickson was asked what he was feeling the day after the election...

"....I got two hours of sleep and I got up and I started getting to work with lists and ideas of things I need to do. I've got to get to work, there's a lot to do...."

Frederickson thanked his supporters....

"The snowstorm threw  me off, I started thinking back-and-forth, when it comes to percentages when it is a write-in, versus just checking a box, I guess I was surprised. Not necessarily in the people who believe in me because they know I can get stuff done and I knew they would be motivated to vote...."

He says he's going to be talking with council members to figure out committee assignments and says one topic will be near the top of the list...

"..City Administrator, obviously, is an important one, getting a full-time one on board. I won't say as quickly as possible, I'd say as appropriately as possible..getting the right fit for our city, so we can be pro-active like the voters want...."

Frederickson and Scott Counter did not appear on the Rhinelander ballot after a complaint was filed by Young that the other candidates hadn't filed their nomination papers properly. City Clerk Val Foley determined the complaint was factual and was backed by the state, making Frederickson and Counter write-in candidates.

Dick Johns has been either on the Rhinelander city council or mayor since 1964.
