A spokesperson for the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods says if your not registered to vote, look for a mailing soon that will give you the opportunity to register.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission is set to send out 384,000 postcards to unregistered, but eligible, voters in the state. Jane Trotter says this effort is to allow more people to vote....

"...This is not because people are being removed from the voters list. This is because with a cross-match between drivers licenses and registration rolls, 384,000 people have shown up not to be registered. This is an effort to get people to register well in advance of the August primary.."

Trotter says you can register online up to 20 days before the primary. She says you can go to the website My Vote Wi dot gov and after you put in some basic information, it will tell you whether you are registered to vote. If not registered, the site will walk you through the process to get registered. Trotter says many people can easily not be registered...

"...A lot of people don't realize they've moved just across the street, but having changed addresses, even across the street, or in the same town, or getting married and changing their name, or turning 18 in July. All those are reasons you would show up as not registered..."

Jane Trotter says you can also register to vote the day of the election, but it does take more time that day. Voters will need some form of identification that day at the polls.

More information on voting is at the League website lwvnow.org Wisconsin has 4.4 million voting-age citizens with more than 3 million registered to vote.
