Rhinelander mayor Chris Frederickson says he’s gotten a number of people approaching him to see if the city should open up ATV trails.
He told the city council Monday he’s not for or against the possibility of routes within the city and put an item on the agenda to see if the city wanted to hold a public forum on the matter to gauge public opinion:
“…..When it comes to policy in my administration, as far as it goes, what I’ll do is collect as much information as I can prior to making decisions….”
Council member Sherri Belliveau thought a full forum was premature…
“…I think what we have to do first if we’re going to have a forum here and we won’t have any answers. We need to do a background, feasibility study, take a look at the ordinances the townships have in place. That way when we have people in the audience, we have some answers….”
But the majority of the council felt having a forum to get a feel for public opinion early might help the decision making process. The council will provide available dates they can attend a public forum and the matter will return to council.
