Lakeland is leading neighboring high schools in the Great Northern Conference in a benchmark college readiness test known as A-C-T.
LUHS Principal Justin Szews shares news that Lakeland’s juniors last year had a composite average score of 20.58 on the ACT. Northland Pines follows at 20.35 and Rhinelander is at 19.32. The state average is at 20.5.
“It’s pretty cool when we compete this well. It says a lot about the building that we have: the people, students, staff, supportive school board. This is a good thing folks. We’re on the top of the heap in the GNC conference.”
The school board Tuesday applauded the results.
The state requires all juniors to take the test to determine how ready they are for first-year college coursework in English, mathematics, reading and science.
A student’s ACT score can mean acceptance or rejection from a college or university of choice, as well as success in getting scholarships. For more details on ACT, go to wisedash.dpi.wi.gov.
