Minocqua Sees Small Bump In Levy

MINOCQUA – Minocqua voters approved a small bump in the overall levy to support the 2019 town budget at Thursday’s annual town meeting.

The meeting drew 27 residents, about half being town officials and employees.

The 2018 levy of $3,877,422 for town operations and debt payments is an increase of $47,526 over the prior year. The tax rate of $2.59 per $1,000 assessed valuation will mean a town tax bill of $517.90 if you own a home valued at $200,000. That’s an increase of $3.30.

The 2019 budget saw an increase in revenues from room tax. It includes money for a new full time parks position, new squad car for the police department, new patrol truck and mini excavator for the public works department, and new air packs for volunteer firefighters.

In addition, town employees will receive a 2 percent pay increase.

From the floor, voters increased the annual salary of the town chairman and town clerk positions by $4,000 each. The new salaries of $49,500 will become effective after elections next April. A request to restore funding of the local senior center to $10,000 from the budgeted $7,500 failed.
