State Officials Says There's Still Time To Get ID To Vote

A state Transportation official says Wisconsin driver licenses or IDs are the most common forms of proof of identity when you head to the polls next week.

Kristina Boardman is the Administrator for the Division of Motor Vehicles...

"...If people have a Wisconsin ID card or a Wisconsin driver's license, they have what is needed to vote, they don't need to do anything additional. If they don't have one of those products and they don't have a passport or one of the acceptable proofs of ID, then DMV is available to assist...."

Boardman says go online to the Wisconsin DMV website to find the nearest location. There is a DMV office in Rhinelander. She says if you have all the needed documentation, a birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residency, they can hand you a receipt over the counter and you should get your cared in the mail within a week.

The receipt would be a valid ID for voting...

"..We don't want people to be scared if they don't have the documentation. We're here to help, no matter what. We don't want anyone to incur any fees to obtain the documentation that may be needed, so just come in with whatever you have and we'll make sure we move you through the process. We will pay for any verifications needed for a birth certificate, etc. We will make sure the customer has a receipt for voting while we're working through that process...."

Boardman says contact the Division of Motor Vehicles if you've lost your ID so they can get you a duplicate.
