The cruise boat left high and dry in Rhinelander might be headed to a new home after all.
Earlier this month, the Rhinelander City Council pondered what to do with the boat, now parked at the Pelican Rapids boat landing on the city's south side.
The former owner sold the boat to a Delavan, Wisconsin business and the boat was parked at the landing awaiting pickup. The boat weighed much more than first believed, so a trailer first proposed didn't work and the pickup of the craft stalled.
The city had moved as far as thinking about claiming the boat if it wasn't picked up, but City Attorney Carrie Miljevich offered to make one more attempt to contact the owner. She reported to the council Monday night that the new owner called her Monday and is moving ahead with the transport:
"...from Lake Lawn Resort, which is a large resort in Delavan, Wisconsin. The person who owns(the boat) is the person who owns the resort. They indicated they would be up later this week or next week to put it on a flat bed trailer..."
Miljevich says DOT regulations require them to travel on Sundays or certain days of the week. She reported if the boat is not out of Rhinelander by April 7, they will be discussing the matter at an April 8 meeting with a copy of the city ordinance under which it falls.
