200 Cyber Attacks Reported To Vilas Computers Each Day

“We have about 200 cyber attacks on our system every day.”

That information was revealed by Vilas County Information Technology (IT) director Mike Duening to the Vilas County public property committee last week when the committee supported more than $300,000 in backup protection of the county systems.

“We try to have our county staff recognize what to look for in cyber attacks in a ten minute training video,” Duening said. “We have things to block ransomware type cyber attacks but even if one wrong e-mail is clicked, it can cause real problems.”

Duening identified three critical expenditures he wants in the 2020 county capitol expenditure budget; $131,000 for Cloud Four five year backup storage, $190,000 for DR/Cloud backup and $9,500 for internet equipment up grade.

The committee supported the request.
