It's going to feel like spring this weekend and our clocks will 'spring forward'.
Most of the nation converts to Daylight Savings Time Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 a.m. A spokeperson for Wisconsin Emergency Management, Christine Bellport, says the bi-annual changing of the clocks is a good time to remind everyone to update their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in their homes...
"It's important you do simple things in your home. It takes five minutes and it could save a life. Make sure your smoke detector, make sure the battery is working. Maybe it's a good time to change out the battery, also your carbon monoxide detector as well. Carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every five years and your smoke detector every 10 years..."
Bellport says the cost of a few batteries could mean saving your life and the lives of your loved ones....
"Carbon monoxide poisoning can happen at any time. It sends about 500 Wisconsinites into the emergency room every year. That's according to Wisconsin Health Services. It is something you have to think about with the snow around your home, clearing those vents as well..."
According to the National Fire Protection Association, three out of every five deaths in homes were because there were no smoke alarms or they weren't working properly.
