Rural Residents Can Find Access To Phone Or Internet Service

Public Service Commission of Wisconsin

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) recently launched a customer service phone line for people who need help locating phone or internet service during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Callers can speak with a PSC Consumer Affairs staff person who will walk through internet and phone service options available in their area and discuss eligibility for discounts on critical communications services.

State broadband director Jaron McCallum says they recognize connectivity is important any time, but especially during this health emergency. He says the line was set up to help people struggling to get adequate phone or internet service...

"Call and potentially get information on discounts that are available, whether that be from private internet service providers or through the federal Lifeline program or other programs like that..."

The line will also help them locate an internet service provider or a phone provider. They will also help you find a local internet service option in the community. He says while landlines are declining in use, they often are used for emergency services.

McCallum says in rural Wisconsin, there's issues of availability but other issues too...

"There's also issues of affordability as well. In the urban counterparts, availability might not be the issue, but affordability is an issue..."

The PSC Internet & Phone Helpline is at 608-267-3595. McCallum says they have staff available during general business hours or you can leave a message.
