Stevens Point Man Dies In Minocqua Vehicle Crash--Canoeists Found Safe

MINOCQUA--A Stevens Point man has died from a traffic crash in a Minocqua parking lot.

Police Chief David Jaeger reports a one-vehicle crash about 9:13 Sunday night in the parking lot of the Minocqua Prime Restaurant. 47-year-old Corey Lee Johnson of Stevens Point died in the crash. He was believed to be the passenger in the vehicle. The person believed to be the  driver, 36-year-old Christopher A. Gore, also of Stevens Point, sustained injuries in the crash and was initally taken to Howard Young Medical Center, then flown out by Spirit Air to another facility. Jaeger says more details of the crash are not belng released at this time. Several other agencies responded to the crash.

- Two women from Marathon, Wisconsin are safe after being reported missing Saturday while canoeing on the Tomahawk River. Chief Jaeger reports 25-year- old Katelynn Hughes and 19-year-old Charlotte Hughes left from a residence at approximately 3:30 PM heading south on the Tomahawk River towards the Willow Flowage. By 9:00 p.m. the women had not returned as expected. 

The canoeists were found approximately 1:00 a.m. in a cabin on Cedar Falls fire lane along the Tomahawk River. After being checked out by medical personnel, both were reported as ok.

Eight agencies along with Minocqua Police were involved in the search and Jaeger thanked all the extra help they received.
