Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin has been joined by other Democrats to author a package of relief bills mainly focused on schools, child care and other virus-releated issues.
Coronavirus Child Care and Education Relief Act provides an investment to help child care providers remain open, and K-12 schools and colleges can address a variety of issues including implementing public health measures, addressing learning loss among students, and providing emergency financial assistance to post-secondary students during the pandemic.
Senator Baldwin says the measure will help schools navigate the virus...
"I know a lot of us are focused on the reopening of K-12 schools. This act provides $175 billion to help them respond to the coronavirus...."
There's also $50 billion for a Child Care Stabilization Fund, to ensure that child care providers can stay open, educators can continue getting paid, and working families get tuition relief...
"The pre-coronavirus level of child care throughout our country will not return in the same way as we saw it before hand. This is critical as we're trying to get our economy back open......"
Other provisions include $132 billion for higher education, $4 billion for career, technical, adult education and training, $1.5 billion to address and prevent child abuse and neglect, $33 billion for a Governor’s Fund, allowing governors to allocate funds for needed educational services to areas of their states hardest hit by the virus.
