Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds Founder and President Dilya St. Louis accepts a grant for $700 to buy CPR dummies to teach community classes.

Dilya St. Louis loves education.

She’s currently working on her doctorate in education.

“I do have a passion for education. I love sharing my knowledge,” she said.

St. Louis currently teaches nursing at Nicolet College and previously worked as nurse for 10 years providing healthcare to people in the Northwoods.

During that time, she’s noticed a lack of education around what she believes are basic health and well-being issues.

“Our community is so small and there’s so many vulnerable people,” said St. Louis. “I think we should help them make the most knowledgeable decisions regarding their health and also provide the skills that they can actually use to hopefully save some lives.”

In response to that concern, St. Louis started a non-profit called Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds.

So far, she’s mostly been holding CPR classes.

Grants from the Town of Three Lakes Community Foundation and Allied 100 in Woodruff allowed her to secure several CPR dummies.

St. Louis is also working on expanding classes on topics like diabetes, COVID vaccines, and heart health.

“Being in the medical field access to a lot of those resources, most of my friends are practitioners or doctors. They are willing to come out and do a talk and stuff like that,” she said.

Her hope is that through education, she can contribute to creating a healthier community.

“I always believe that education is a power,” said St. Louis.

St. Louis is open to different health topics to teach.
