UW-Madison's Kemp Natural Resources Station in Woodruff will dedicate a new building Saturday that a leader says will mean activities can be scheduled all year long.
Superintendent Scott Bowe says the current meeting space above the boat house is limited to warmer months events, but the new building will enable year round gatherings...
"....the new classroom is a 4,500 square foot building that will have a large room capable of handling 85 people or more and a small classroom with a capacity of 35 people. The good thing is it will be available all year long...."
This new building was made possible by a gift from donors Mary Connor Pierce and Dudley Pierce. Built on the site of the Kemp family’s former tennis court, each room in the building features panels made from a different species of wood, locally sourced, and representing the common commercial species of northern Wisconsin.
Besides Bowe and Mary Connor Pierce, other speakers include past superintendent Tom Steele, and Kate VandenBosch, Dean of the College of Life Sciences. Bowe says all the money to build the facility came from private donations.
The dedication is Saturday at 2 p.m.
Kemp station is one of twelve research stations managed by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Annually, it hosts dozens of researchers from UW-Madison and other universities, the DNR, federal agencies and other natural resource organizations.
