Clean Energy Toolkit Offered By Environmental Groups For Local Govt.'s
A conservation group is out with a toolkit they hope will help local communities fight climate change.
Wisconsin Conservation Voters along with the Sierra Club and RENEW Wisconsin have released the Wisconsin Clean Energy Toolkit, to develop a clean energy plan for local communities.
Ryan Billingham of Wisconsin Conservation Voters says the toolkit enables local citizens to take action...
"What we found is with lack of leadership at other levels of government, towns, villages, counties and municipalities are building the renewable energy economy and they're really leading the way confronting climate change. We saw a space where the toolkit could exist to help communities across the state. Given them the tools to develop clean energy plans..."
Billingham says the document is comprehensive...
"Help communities understand current state policies and regulations that impact energy use here in Wisconsin. Also guidance on how to make a commitment in your community to clean energy. How to build support in your community for clean energy policies which can be a challenge. How to establish a baseline of a communities current energy use and how to set benchmarks and track progress toward long range goals...."
He says it also shows how to protect vulnerable communities when making the transition to clean energy. It also shows an array of financing options available to local government. Billingham says you can download the document at wicleanenergytoolkit.com
