WXPR is celebrating 32 years on the air today. The station began as a vision of Peter Nordgren principally, and a few others. They began looking at a station in Wisconsin's Northwoods, where no local public radio was available. They began asking people for money without a solid idea that the station would be able to get on the air. Enough money was raised that the station signed on on April 24, 1983 at the former studio site on Prospect St. in Rhinelander and a transmitter in Sugar Camp.
