Rhinelander Red Cross Volunteer Rings in 2016 Helping Dallas Victims

flickr.com

A Rhinelander area Red Cross volunteer is in Texas to help with relief efforts after a tornado hit the Dallas area. Carol Miller is a nurse and rang in the New Year helping hundreds of families clean up debris and supply basic necessities such as medications, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and glasses. Miller also helps clients with medical problems and staff who need medical aid.

“…it was really interesting. There were blocks that were completely destroyed, houses were flattened. Then you look across the street and the neighbors have a few shingles missing from their roof. There are over 700 families affected.”

Miller says she also worked with other agencies that were in the Dallas area to connect people with financial assistance and shelters. This is Miller’s 13th deployment and she says it’s always a learning experience.

Miller will be back in the Northwoods tomorrow night.
