A racial justice educator and writer will be in the Northwoods in celebration of Martin Luther King Day to talk about the racial barriers keeping America from achieving Dr. King’s dream. Debby Irving is the author of “Waking up White,” and uses her life to explore racism and the radical belief systems it’s created. Irving will be in Woodruff talking about her book and how she’s taking steps to breakdown the racial divide.
“…I measured everything from this normalized point of “whiteness.” The other thing it meant for me to be white, no one I grew up with talked about race or racism. I didn’t grow up with bigots, I grew up with an information void; we didn’t talk about it.”
Irving be at the Woodruff Community Center Sunday January 17 at 1:30.
