A new online map and user tool for trout will help anglers find places to fish and learn about local regulations.
Called the Trout Regulations and Opportunities User Tool, or TROUT, the tool was developed by the DNR fisheries bureau and increases angler efficiency by showing where publicly accessible land is relative to roads, bridge crossings and trout streams.
Trout Coordinator Joanna Griffin says the tool can be used to print and save a customized map for fishing trips and measure distances…
“They can zoom in and find access where they can access the stream. Good fishing locations so it has all of our classified trout waters on it, and what the regulation is where they are fishing.”
Griffin says anglers can also use the web tool to figure out where they are and what other bodies of water are closest to them.
She says the DNR is also working to develop a mobile app.
The Trout tool is available on the DNR’swebsite keyword TROUT.
