Lac du Flambeau Tribe Awarded Indian Bowl Contract

The Lac du Flambeau tribe has been awarded a 1.5 million dollar contract to rebuild their Indian Bowl Living Arts and Cultural Center.

The Indian Bowl site has drawn in tourists since the 1950s with its traditional dance performances and cultural events. The original structure was demolished nearly two years ago and the rebuild has been in the planning stages for decades.

Designed by Meyer Group Architecture, the new Indian Bowl will be built by the Lac du Flambeau Tribe construction company known as LDF-CCI Construction and will have an additional 10,000 square feet. President Robert Elm says the re-design will incorporate recycled demolition materials from the previous Indian Bowl and will have locally-sourced building products and technologies.

“…it’s going to bring back the culture into the community because we really thrive on that one venue for bringing in tourism, and it gives us a platform to share our culture and our heritage to people who are visiting the area.”

Elm says building the new facility means building their future and says the new site will be a confidence booster for the area.

“…Now that we have our own construction company, we are going to build up our workforce and it’s going to help our economy enormously. So all the way around from construction to a new Indian Bowl and a new place for our people to show our pride and heritage…I think it’s a win-win all the way around..”

A ground breaking for the new Indian Bowl Living Arts and Cultural Center will be held Thursday, August 4 at 3pm. Construction is expected to be completed by next spring.
