VoteSafe Wisconsin Encourages People Keep Faith in Election Process

Katie Thoresen/WXPR

Wisconsin’s election was secure and followed according to law. That’s been the overwhelming message by local, state and federal election officials.

Late last week, Wisconsin’s Chief Election Official said there’s been no evidence of any wrongdoing, fraud, or irregularity in the state’s presidential election.

Starting the day after the election, County Board of Canvasses have been going to through and double checking the work done by city election officials.

So far, they’ve not found any major discrepancies from what was reported on election night.

Former Wisconsin Attorney General JB Van Hollen (R) is the Co-chair of VoteSafe Wisconsin.  It’s a bipartisan coalition that has been working to ensure no matter who people vote for their vote is accessible and secure.

Van Hollen says there are multiple security check points in Wisconsin’s voting system to ensure only registered voters get a ballot.

“I don’t know what more security we could provide without completely eliminating absentee balloting which would disenfranchise many people who don’t have the ability, physically to get the polls,” said Van Hollen.

Van Hollen said election clerks adhere to strict laws and regulations in Wisconsin when it comes to reviewing ballots and ensure only valid ones are counted. And there’s safeguards in place to make sure they’re following those laws.

“They’re overlooked by volunteers from both political parties seeing what’s being done. If one party takes issue with it of course, we have the courts of law that can resolve those things as well. Ultimately, if not immediately, things do get resolved and they get resolved in a legal manner,” said Van Hollen.

Tuesday, November 17 is the deadline for all counties in Wisconsin to submit their Board of Canvass results to the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Within a day of that we’ll know if the state will need to do a recount.
