Three Lakes Man Hit and Killed, Driver Facing Charges
Samuel Steinhaus, a 29-year-old driver, is facing multiple charges after a deadly crash in Three Lakes Friday night.
Police responded to a 911 call of a car hitting a person on Highway X near the intersection with Medicine Lake Lodge Road just before 9:30 p.m.
According to the Three Lakes Police Department, the truck was driving north on Highway X when it went into a ditch in the opposite lane.
George Steinhaus, a 59-year-old pedestrian, was trying to pull the car from the ditch when he was hit by the vehicle.
Police say he died at the scene.
Samuel Steinhaus was arrested. Charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, 3rd offense operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operation of a motor vehicle after revocation, and failure to install ignition interlock device have been forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.
The crash is still being investigated by the Three Lakes Police Department and Oneida County’s Medical Examiner’s Office.
