Northland Pines Policy Committee Makes Suggestions for Prom and Graduation

Katie Thoresen/WXPR

While the pandemic stopped in person graduation and the prom last year, the Northland Pines Policy Committee last week looked at options for both prom and graduation this year and will make suggestions to the full school board for them to consider when they meet March 22.

Prom 2021 is tentatively planned for the evening of Friday, June 11 in the gym and fieldhouse with
some major considerations. These include limiting attendance to 11 th and 12 th grades only with no
guests from other schools. School staff can be present but no parents with affordable ticket s to cover
food, a disk jockey, and possibility of a tent outdoors.

There would be no prom court but each student would be announced. While use of a tent outdoors was
discussed there would be a need for a dance floor although a tent might be used for 2020 graduate
gathering.

This year gradation will be June 7 in the fieldhouse for two classes, this year and last year. Two different setups are to be determined for stage location and seating.

Earth day is recommended to be moved from this spring to the 2021-22. Committee member Becky
Nordine stressed “our main concern is keeping staff and students safe.”

Vaccination for all staff is available at Wall Street Pharmacy in Eagle River and Land 0’ Lakes
Pharmacy. While not mandatory, it is preferable but remains a personal choice of individuals.

The full board’s next meeting is Monday, March 22 starting at 6:00 pm.
