Veterans Park Raising Funds for Improvements

Highground Facebook Page

A Veterans Parks in Wisconsin hopes to raise four million dollars to make improvements.

Chris Pettis with the High Grounds in Neillsville says the improvements would include added space for war-time artifacts.

“A lot of veterans have donated some of their stories, their uniforms, a lot of pictures of their service.  We also collect all this information and set up our own exhibits.”

The goal is to make sure the Veterans of today can get the services they need, while ensuring a respectable final resting place for those that have passed.

Pettis says the biggest addition would be indoor gathering space, which will come in handy for events.

“We’re hoping this building will be large enough to host around 150 folks, non-covid year of course, for events.  A lot of our events are outside.  Due to inclement weather we have to either cancel or ask our guests to go home because we don’t have a place to house them.”

Pettis says they'd also like to expand offerings for families and Veterans who are dealing with things like PTSD.

“Our plan is to host not only veterans retreats, but family veterans retreats for those suffering from post war trauma or post traumatic stress.”

Pettis says the group has a fundraiser planned for next month and will also be approaching foundations and previous donors as well. More information on the campaign and improvements can be found on the high ground's website, thehighground.us
