Beyer Joins WEDA Board of Directors, Advocates for Rural Economic Development

If you’ve heard or read any stories about economic development in the Northwoods, you’ve more than likely come across the name Brittany Beyer.

Beyer is currently the executive director of Grow North, an economic development organization focused on Northern Wisconsin. She also serves on the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Rural Prosperity and currently chairs the state’s Taskforce on Broadband Access.

Now, she’s adding her name and knowledge to another organization, Wisconsin Economic Development Association’s Board of Directors.

Beyer says she’s worked with WEDA a lot through Grow North.

“They are one of the leaders in economic development education, kind of as an ongoing thing for the professionals in the space. I’ve actually used that every single year, multiple times and found great benefit from it,” said Beyer.

She says the organization has done a good job addressing the needs of rural areas of Wisconsin. Beyer looks forward to expanding on that work.

“Our assets are a little bit different than in urban environment and our capabilities are there, but they need to be recognized and there needs to be thought around how to make policy and make suggestions to state agencies on our behalf and that’s certainly something I’m going to be doing,” said Beyer.

She says the hardest part is making sure the tools available also work for rural communities.
