Downs Syndrome Achievement Center Coming To Central Wisconsin

WAOW Television

A superstar in the Down syndrome world visited central Wisconsin Wednesday.

Gigi Gianni is the inspiration behind GiGi's Playhouse, an international Down syndrome achievement center coming to the area.

Gigi's mom, Nancy, started the organization after her daughter was born with Down syndrome.

Her goal was to change the way the world views Down syndrome, while promoting inclusion and acceptance for those with an extra chromosome.

Gigi and Nancy spoke to community members at a luncheon about why GiGi's Playhouse will be a great benefit to the area, and how it would impact families in the area.

"When a Gigi's Playhouse comes to a community, that community becomes better," Nancy said. "They learn the incredible gift of acceptance and respect. They learn that individuals with down syndrome need just a little extra help and when you give it to them you can change their lives."

The local playhouse is expected to open this summer in Weston.

News 9's Ally Peters is the Vice President of GiGi's Playhouse Wausau.
