Eagle River Light & Water Utility Applies for Rate Increase

Wikimedia Commons Royalbroil

Eagle River Light & Water utility has filed an application with the state Public Service Commission  (PSC) for an overall electric rate increase of 7.47% or $234,847 according to a report by utility manager Mike Sanborn to the Light & Water Commission last week.

“The requested adjustment is due to our inflationary increases in operational and maintenance expenses and costs in maintaining the electric distribution system,” according to Sanborn, noting the last rate increase was approved February, 2017.”

He told the Commission Eagle River benefited from a strong tourism summer and electrical sales were  strong.

The PSC will conduct a public hearing in Eagle River and Madison after a date has been set. Sanborn expects if the rate is approved the typical residential customer would see a monthly bill increase from $59.18 to $64.60 or about 9.2%.

Well search continues

The search for a new well #4 continues with three areas now being considered for testing; the municipal airport property, the municipal golf course, and the municipal beach on Silver Lake.

The commission approved a $9,500 extension for assistance from Mid State Associates.
