Forest County Records First COVID-19 Death

Forest County Health Department Facebook

Forest County reports its first death due to the COVID-19 virus.  In a news release posted to Facebook on Saturday, the Forest County Health Department announced the death.

Jacee Sheppard, Health Officer for the Forest County Health Department, said the department is deeply saddened by the loss.  She said their deepest condolences go out to family, friends and loved ones.

As of Sunday, the state had recorded over 15-thousand cases of COVID-19, and 510 deaths.

22 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in Forest County as of Sunday.  The health department says the individuals are linked to the current public health investigation with The Bay at Nu Roc Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laona.

Forest County Health officials said they expected the number of confirmed cases to continue to rise in the coming weeks.  Expanded testing and contact tracing are being put into effect both locally and statewide to slow the spread.

The Forest County Health Department encourages people to minimize contact with others by staying home when possible.  They also ask people to practice physical distancing and stay alert for symptoms.
